Formula
H = Hs + hf + hm | hf = f · (L/D) · v²/2g | hm = ΣK · v²/2g
Hydraulic power: P = ρ · g · Q · H
Typical Friction Factors
| Pipe material | f (turbulent, approx.) |
|---|---|
| Smooth PVC / PE | 0.015 |
| Commercial steel | 0.020 |
| Galvanized iron | 0.025 |
| Old / corroded pipe | 0.035+ |
FAQ
What is static head?
The vertical distance the pump must lift the fluid, independent of flow.
Why is my head higher than expected?
Most undersized-pipe problems: velocity losses grow with v², so halving the pipe diameter roughly multiplies friction by 10.
